The Politics & Journalism Semester program is geared specifically for journalism students who can gain significant experience working full-time for a semester in the nation’s capital through the Washington Center for Politics and Journalism. The student will receive practical experience in covering politics and government in a fast-paced environment while learning about politics from the perspective of political practitioners and political journalists. One stipend of $3,000 will be available each year from the Simon Institute to assist an SIUC student accepted by the program.
Eligibility: The program is open to juniors, seniors, graduate students and recent graduates. Applicants must demonstrate substantial interest in political journalism as a career goal. Strong preference is given to those with reporting, writing and producing experience at school or other papers and broadcast outlets; published writing samples are essential for print-oriented students.
